Wineries along Silverado Trail destroyed or damaged

Several wineries along Silverado Trail have been damaged or destroyed by the North Bay fires.  Signorello Estate, on Silverado Trail near Oak Knoll Avenue, was destroyed by the flames of the so-called Atlas fire and outbuildings at the winery continued to burn Monday night.

"There are quite a few wineries that are just gone," said Barbara Clerici, a grower who leases property to Signorello.  Clerici said even the grapes that didn't burn are most likely ruined.  "Most of the growers are writing off their crop because the grapes absorbed the smoke and you just can't work with the grapes," she explained.

Stag Leap winery sustained severe damage. William Hill, also on the Silverado Trail sustained cosmetic and landscaping damage, but the winery buildings remain intact.

The Silverado Resort and Spa, which on Sunday hosted the final round of the PGA Tour's Safeway Open, remained intact.  Some homes east of the golf course, however, burned to the ground.
