Super Mario: Texans Sack Broncos' Playoff Hopes

Posted: 8:30 pm PST December 13, 2007

(Sports Network) - Sage Rosenfels completed 16-of-27 passes for 200 yards with a touchdown and an interception and the Houston Texans, aided by a 3.5-sack performance by Mario Williams, defeated the Denver Broncos 31-13 on Thursday night.

Andre Johnson had six catches for 86 yards and a touchdown, and Ron Dayne gained 67 yards on 11 carries with a score for the Texans (7-7), who have won three straight under their backup quarterback. Matt Schaub may miss the rest of the season with a shoulder injury, but Rosenfels' play may have put Schaub's starting spot in jeopardy even if he is able to return.

Darius Walker gained 66 yards on 13 carries for Houston.

Jay Cutler completed 27-of-39 passes for 254 yards and a touchdown for the Broncos (6-8) who have dropped three of four, and saw their lingering hopes for playoff spot all but extinguished. Brandon Marshall had 11 catches for 107 yards, and Tony Scheffler had seven grabs for 100 yards and a touchdown for the Broncos.

Selvin Young led an ineffective Broncos ground game with eight carries for 34 yards, and Travis Henry gained only 27 yards on 10 carries.
