Cardinals Sign Third-Round Pick Johnson

Posted: 10:48 am PDT July 9, 2009

(Sports Network) - The Arizona Cardinals have signed safety Rashad Johnson to a three-year contract.

Financial terms for the club's third-round pick in the 2009 NFL Draft were not disclosed.

Johnson was selected with the 95th overall pick of the draft after a standout career at Alabama. He was a two-time team captain and a unanimous first-team All-SEC choice as a senior in 2008.

In 14 games last season, Johnson ranked second on the team with 89 tackles, including 60 solo, to go along with five interceptions, one sack, a forced fumble and a recovery. As a junior, he led the Crimson Tide with 94 tackles and six interceptions.

The Cardinals also released wide receiver Shane Morales, who signed with the club as a rookie free agent out of Oregon State in April.
