Millennium

MillenniumDescription: One of the most inventive vegetarian restaurants you'll find in San Francisco (or the world, for that matter), Millennium applies the concepts of animal-free cooking and sustainable organic farming to gourmet cuisine and succeeds with remarkable results.

Executive chef Eric Tucker's restaurant relocated to a new, larger space in the elegant Savoy Hotel in March of 2003, only a short distance from the Geary Street theater district. Though it's definitely geared for upscale, formal dining, Millennium is comfortable enough for casually dressed patrons to visit without getting self-conscious.

The ever-changing menu features a few standby items like the warm spinach salad with smoked tofu and the dazzling Millennium chocolate dessert platter, but the small plates and entrees draw on a variety of Asian and Latin influences. The restaurant also features a couple of interesting raw plates as appetizers or entrees, reflecting a growing interest in this new type of cuisine.

For those who aren't familiar with vegetarian dining, you don't necessarily have to be eating with a vegetarian to make sense of Millennium's menu; the helpful wait staff will be more than willing to field questions. Close-minded carnivores are advised to give the creative cuisine at Millennium a try.
