Uncle Frank's

uncle_franksDescription: This tiny East Palo Alto smokehouse is the place to go for real Texas-style barbecue on the Peninsula. Owner Frank Bell serves super-sized portions of juicy, flavor-packed beef brisket, pork ribs and chicken that could only come from the sweet marriage of smoke, meat and time. For example, Bell's signature brisket spends a whopping 30 hours in the smoker.

All meats are anointed with Uncle Frank's sweet and sassy Original Louisiana Style Sauce Du Jour, which he makes from an old family recipe and also sells in bottles to go. Everything is served in Styrofoam with sides of collard greens and cornbread. Most people get it to go, but you might be able to pull up a chair at one of the half dozen tables if it's not busy.

On Fridays, Uncle Frank also serves fried catfish and french fries. If you're up for desert, try the sweet peach cobbler. Check out the "Good for the Soul" menu on Sundays that celebrate the African American heritage of spirituall minded dinner fare.
