Cal's Robertson To Take Redshirt Year

Posted: 1:43 pm PST January 15, 2008

(Sports Network) - University of California junior forward Theo Robertson has opted to redshirt for the 2007-08 season as he continues to recover from a surgically repaired hip.

Robertson, who averaged 8.8 points and 4.3 rebounds per game as a sophomore in 2006-07, has yet to play in a game this season, and by sitting out the rest of the year will have two years of eligibility remaining entering the 2008-09 campaign.

"I really don't think I made the decision," Robertson said. "It was up to my body. It's been a long haul. I'm a competitor. I want to play."

A product of De La Salle High School in Concord, California, Robertson had hoped to return in time for conference play, but is still experiencing soreness and is limited in practice.

"He's our most experienced player and probably our most versatile player," said Cal head coach Ben Braun, whose squad has started the season 11-4. "He's been missed and he's going to be missed."
