NBA Finals: Andrew Bogut out for rest of series

OAKLAND (KTVU) -- The Golden State Warriors announced Wednesday morning that center Andrew Bogut will not play in the rest of the NBA  Finals because of a knee injury.

NBA.com and other sports websites were among the first to announce the move, which was confirmed when the Warriors released an official statement about the development.

"Due to the remaining length of the NBA Finals and expected recovery time, a minimum of 6-8 weeks, (Bogut) will miss the remainder of the series," the team's statement said. "The injury will not require surgery and he is expected to make a full recovery.

Bogut, 31, suffered the injury at the 10:30 mark of the 3rd quarter of Game 5 this week at Oracle Arena. He fell to the floor while trying to block a shot and seemed to be in pain. He was the first player to register six blocked shots in an NBA Finals game in six years.

On Monday, the Cavs handed defending champion Golden State just its fourth defeat at sold-out Oracle Arena all season, denying MVP Stephen Curry and the Warriors a chance to celebrate a second straight title with their golden-clad "Strength In Numbers" supporters.

Now, Curry and Co. must try to win on the road just the way the Warriors did last year and also in their only other championship season out West in 1975.
