National Sales Manager

SUMMARY: Co-directs the National Sales Department for KTVU, and reports to the General Sales Manager. This involves continuing communication and leadership with Telerep sales office in Los Angeles, and possibly other offices across the country.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Responsible for advertising dollars placed on KTVU from the Los Angeles Area which is represented by our national sales representative firm, TeleRep.

Responsible for managing sports and specials sales for all accounts purchased out of Los Angeles and Southern California. Act as contact for locally based national clients. Rate card, budget, rating book and occasional program analyses. Advise Research Director in creation of research pieces to assist in sales efforts. Informational memos dealing with station programming and rate changes. Creation and presentation of special pitches to clients and key agency personnel around the country. Maintain contact with management at the representative company regarding personnel evaluation and sales policy. Advise General Sales Manager on interviewing selection or replacement of department personnel.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Co-supervises the two National Sales Assistants. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and procedures. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Supervises sales activities for the national sales rep as it pertains to San Francisco.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; or four to five years related experience in National Sales or sales representative position; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES: Must be very knowledgeable in the basic and advanced techniques of selling television and in sales negotiation.

Must have strong organizational skills, and demand high standards of self and others. Deadlines must be established, and achieved. Must have strong ability to proactively build relationships with clients at all levels.
