SUMMARY: KTVU, the #1 station in San Francisco is looking for an experienced newscast director. Candidate should have 3 to 5 years experience with fast paced productions. Your primary duties will include directing newscasts, but will also include public affairs, special projects and local programming. We have an Ignite Control Room – Ignite experience is a plus, but we will train the successful candidate. A strong technical understanding of new technology is also a plus. Excellent communication and leadership skills are required. Other duties may be assigned. Coordinates efforts of entire station crew to insure the highest quality live and taped production possible. Plan, coordinate, and direct all the people and activities necessary to insure smooth, clean, error-free programs (news, entertainment, public service and commercial) following the format, policy and guidelines established by Producers.Creative direction of talent and crews with either multi-camera or single-camera shooting from the Control Room (and on location) during broadcast. While the main emphasis is news, this position may be called upon to direct all types of television station programs--sports, promotion, local programming, commercials and remotes. Consults with Producer, Anchors and other crew members on production needs. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Supervises Stage Managers on their duties that relate to the newscast or other television program being directed.In conjunction with the Producer(s), carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities may include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. A.) from four-year college or university in Journalism preferred. Actual experience may be substituted for certain educational requirements. A minimum of two years major-market Television direction experience or three years equivalent medium market experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, associates, clients, or customers.REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES: Use of two-way radio, telephone, iNEWS newsroom computer system. Must have demonstrated skill and ability to creatively direct talent and crews for high quality production in all types of programs. Must also be clearly competent to work well with people to get a job completed in an efficient manner.
