Hayward Teen Has 'Twilight' Dream Come True

Plenty of teens around the Bay Area and across the country will be lining up to see the hotly anticipated new romantic vampire thriller "Twilight" this weekend, but Hayward teenager Brittney Stone actually got a cameo in the film thanks to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

The Phoenix-based organization which helps terminally ill young patient fulfill their dreams helped the teen get the brief part after she told them she would like to be involved in the movie version of her favorite book series.

The 18-year-old Stone was diagnosed with a rare and deadly strain of ovarian cancer in 2005 and had been isolated in a special unit at Children’s Hospital in Oakland because her heavy chemotherapy treatments had severely compromised her immune system.

It was during her extended recovery that her mother, Joanne Stone, coaxed her to read one of the books in the popular "Twilight" series to help pass the time. Though she had never been an avid reader, the teen quickly became a big fan of the books.

The Make-A-Wish Foundation granted Stone's request to be involved with the production, getting her access to the set during on-location filming in Portland, OR, with plans to cast her as an extra in a high-school dance scene. Then she was tapped to play the prom queen.

Stone's screen time in the new film may be brief, but the fact that she got a few seconds of screen time was a thrill for the teen. She also got to meet principle actors in the movie including Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart, the male and female leads in "Twilight." Brittney and her family also got to see a special sneak preview of the movie in Los Angeles last weekend while enjoying full VIP treatment.

Brittney's cancer has gone into remission since she underwent a stem-cell transplant late last year. With luck, she may get to pursue the acting bug that has bitten her since her experience on the set of "Twilight."
