Robert Handa is in his 10th year at KTVU's San Jose Bureau.

Prior to KTVU Fox 2, Handa worked as a reporter and fill-in anchor at KPIX-TV in San Francisco, a reporter/documentary producer for San Francisco PBS station KQED-TV and The MacNeil Lehrer News Hour. He started at KNTV in San Jose where he was Senior Reporter.

During his career, Handa has won numerous awards including:

• an Emmy Award for Outstanding Achievement in Investigative Reporting
• 2 Emmy Awards for Special Live Event Coverage/SF Chinese New Parade
• a UPI Western Regional Award for Best News Reporting
• an Associated Press Award for Best Documentary
• two awards from RTNDA (Radio Television News Directors Association) for Best Live/Breaking News and Best Multi-Part Series
• California School Boards Association for Best Education Reporting

Handa has won several national journalism awards including two top prizes from the Asian American Journalists Association (AAJA) as well as a first place award from the National Association of Black Journalists.

Handa's favorite stories include flying with the Blue Angels, first landing of the Space Shuttle, 49ers' SuperBowl victory and interviewing and meeting with Jimmy Carter, Dahli Lama, Henry Kissinger, Mikhail Gorbachav, Buzz Aldrin, Joe Montana, Willie Mays and Bill Walsh.

In addition, Handa was given the 'Community Star' award from Asian Americans for Community Involvement (AACI) and the first-ever 'Media Excellence' award from the South Bay Islamic Association. He also received 'Distinguished Alumnus' awards from San Jose State University, the Fremont Union High School district (Sunnyvale High School) and was the keynote commencement speaker at a De Anza College graduation ceremony.

Handa is an active member of Bay Area community groups. He served as Vice President for the AAJA Bay Area chapter as well as five years on its board of directors. He was media chair for the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation Walkathon for two years and served four years on the Silicon Valley Volunteer Center (formerly the Volunteer Exchange). In addition, Handa does volunteer work for Kimochi, Self Help for the Elderly, Yu Ai Kai Japantown Seniors, San Jose's Office on Aging, and Family Bridges.

Handa is married to Arlene Sison, has two children and lives in Morgan Hill.
