Asian Americans Fair Game?
When it comes to racist taunts or comments, are Asian Americans fair game? Whether true or not, the community is beginning to feel that way. There was no public outcry in June of 2002, when basketball star Shaquille O'Neal made ethnic comments on national television when referring to Chinese basketball player Yao Ming in June of 2002. That began the so-called "Shaq Controversy". Now, the national organization of Chinese Americans has taken up the mantle of trying to educate the public about racist remarks made at the expense of Asians. D.K. Lu, past president and board member of the organization of Chinese Americans of Silicon Valley talks about the OCA's concerns.
