Business Development Account Executive

SUMMARY: Sells television time to advertisers and their agencies specializing in the development of retail accounts. Strong emphasis on new-to-television and new-to-KTVU business, by performing the following duties:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Compiles lists of prospective customers for use as sales leads, based on information from newspapers, business directories, and other sources.
  • Daily travel throughout Bay Area to call on regular and prospective clients to solicit orders or talks with clients by phone.
  • Presents or demonstrates KTVU programming, using video tape, ratings, and sales pieces prepared by Research Department, emphasizing salable features.
  • Negotiates ratings and rates. Prepares paperwork for orders obtained.
  • Includes internet sales for ktvu.com
  • Works with Production Department on making presentations to advertising agencies and clients.
  • Responsible for selling sponsorships that may include promotions initiated by sales person.
  • Works closely with the client and in-house Production Department to create effective commercials that move the client's inventory.
  • Prepares reports of business transactions and keeps expense accounts.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: College degree preferred, but not required. High school education or General Education Degree (GED) required. Five years prior sales and/or marketing experience with retail accounts and comprehensive experience in the use of media--primarily television, radio and newspaper also required. Vendor and Co-op experience helpful.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, rating books, television logs, BAR reports. Ability to write reports, and business correspondence. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages. Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractures and decimals. Able to compute rate, ratio and percentages, and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Valid driver's license with good driving record required.

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES: Must have marketing orientation toward new business development and outstanding sales skills, i.e., communication, marketing, client relations, organization, tenacity, follow through, creativity and successful track record of closing. Must have good working knowledge of ratings, BAR reports, co-op and vendor support.
