Readers Choose Best Buffet, Casino, Rooms

Favorites Continue Streaks

Thousands of votes from around the globe (hello, Switzerland!) poured in during the Fifth Annual Vegas4Visitors Readers Poll, and this week I'll reveal your picks in four categories. Check back next week for the results in the hotel categories, including your favorite hotel in the entire city.

Favorite Casino
No. 1 -- MGM Grand. The biggest casino in Las Vegas is a big hit with our readers, claiming the No. 1 spot for a second year in a row.

No. 2 -- Harrah's. The readers seem to like this spot for its reputation for loose slots -- whether it's true or not -- and friendly atmosphere.

No. 3 -- Bellagio. On the opposite end of the scale from the relative down-hominess of Harrah's, Bellagio's upscale offerings still impress.

No. 4 -- Caesars Palace. If Elton John and Celine Dion like it, then it must be good!

No. 5 -- New York-New York. One of the most visually entertaining casinos in the city continues to be a crowd pleaser.

Off the charts: The five casinos in this list are the same as last year, only in a slightly different order -- Caesars was in third and Bellagio was in fourth last year

Favorite Buffet

No. 1 -- The Buffet at Wynn Las Vegas. It had only been open for a few months when last year's poll came around, so it was no surprise that it didn't rank at all. What a difference a year can make. Although the voting was tight, Wynn Las Vegas' amazing (and amazingly expensive) buffet claimed the victory for 2006.

No. 2 -- The Buffet at Bellagio. This upscale all-you-can-eatery was No. 1 last year and it came close to a repeat, missing the top spot by one vote.

No. 3 -- Le Village Buffet at Paris Las Vegas. The charming Parisian countryside ambience and French touches to the food seem to be a recipe for success.

No. 4 -- Aladdin Spice Market Buffet. This will be the last year this buffet will show up on this list, at least with this name. The Planet Hollywood takeover of the Aladdin is nearing completion. Although what will happen to the Spice Market is still up in the air, we do know it won't have Aladdin in the title anymore.

No. 5 -- Rio Carnival World Buffet. In the 2004 voting, this buffet came in first place. The fact that it has fallen to fifth probably says less about its performance and more about the intense competition.

Off the charts: The Mirage Cravings buffet got bumped out of the top five, but just barely.

Favorite Rooms

No. 1 -- Bellagio. Another year, another win for Bellagio in this category. For the third year in a row, our readers picked the luxurious rooms here as their favorites.

No. 2 -- The Venetian. The huge bathrooms and step-down living rooms come standard in every room and still make an impression with our readers.

No. 3 -- Wynn Las Vegas. Last year, after only a couple of months of operation, the rooms at Wynn came in at number five but are moving up this year. Bellagio and Venetian, you have been warned.

No. 4 -- Caesars Palace. A delightful mix of old-style Vegas decadence and new-style Vegas opulence make Caesars a hit.

No. 5 -- The Rio. Although slipping a couple of notches, the Rio still holds onto a top five finish, something it has done every year in this category.

Off the charts: Mandalay Bay got bumped out of the top five this year by the resurgent Caesars Palace.

Favorite Service
No. 1 -- Bellagio. I've been doing this poll for five years, and each year the Bellagio not only wins this category, but wins it by a wide margin. The staff is obviously doing something right here.

No. 2 -- Caesars Palace. It's the third year in a row at No. 2 for the Roman decadence at Caesars.

No. 3 -- The Venetian. Bellagio is based on an Italian seaside village. Caesars has Rome, also in Italy. Now Venetian's Venice. Perhaps the Tuscany will come in at No. 4?

No. 4 -- Wynn Las Vegas. No such luck. Wynn's multi-billion baby makes its first appearance in this category.

No. 5 -- MGM Grand. It's pretty impressive that a hotel of this magnitude manages to provide service special enough that people remember it. Kudos.

Off the charts: The Mirage and Paris Las Vegas both got bumped out of the top 5.
