Wet December begins with rainy Thursday

KTVU meteorologist Steve Paulson says Wednesday night into Thursday morning was the start of a new rainy cycle in December.

SFO received about an inch over that period of time..

Close to two inches of rain fell in parts of Marin County.

Rain fell on-and-off through the morning, and is tapering off this afternoon.

Friday should be mostly cloudy, but rain could arrive Friday night, into Saturday morning.

Some places in the Bay Area that will receive the most rain include, the Santa Cruz Mountains, Marin County and parts of the peninsula.

Those ares could receive an inch and a half of rain through Friday.

After years of drought, the rain is a welcome sight, But most of the Bay Area is still running a tad behind average.

Before the latest storm Thursday morning, the rain total in San Francisco was 85-percent normal.

Oakland stood at 93-percent, and San Jose at 90-percent.

But the North Bay is doing exceptional well. Santa Rosa is at 141-percent of normal.
