Maddie’s Fund

Meet Otto and Mookie, two loveable, furry friends who are up for adoption along with thousands of other shelter dogs and cats through the third annual Maddie’s Matchmaker Adoptathon. This year’s adoptathon makes it easier for pet-lovers and families to adopt pets as 62 groups are participating in more than 80 locations across the Bay Area. Find out where you can go to adopt a pet and how Maddie’s Fund will be helping all the various pet shelters. Also, find out about the Animals on Broadway fundraiser for Tony La Russa’s Animal Rescue Foundation  happening May 20 at Broadway Plaza in Walnut Creek.

Citizen Schools

Citizen Schools is a great program that provides middle school students with the opportunity to learn leadership, teamwork, and communication – all things that are important for success in the real world. The program offers students an “extended school day” in which they can get academic help, and also participate in a variety of apprenticeship courses, such as “Basics in Video Producing.” Angela Smith, a Citizen teacher and Jerico Paguio, a Citizen School Liaison, talk about their involvement with one of the local Citizen Schools programs at Elmhurst Community Prep middle school in Oakland, and what the program is doing to help change the lives and futures of these children.

Chocolate Butter

Ed Engoron, chocolate expert and co-founder of the Choclatique chocolate company shows us a delicious, fun, and simple recipe to make, just in time for Mother’s Day! It’s called “Chocolate Butter,” a combination of his Chocolate Ganache recipe and generous amounts of butter – which is great on French toast, pancakes, or croissants. This recipe will leave you wanting more, and let you know exactly how he earned his nickname as “The Chocolate Doctor.”
