Komen Race for the Cure

The annual Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure raises money for breast cancer research but this year they experienced a significantly lower turnout for the San Francisco race, due to the continuing controversy over the foundation’s national office’s attempt to cut funding to Planned Parenthood.   Breast cancer survivor, Tamsin Kendall, explains why she still supports the organization in the midst of controversy.

Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA)

The Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals reform act has given children of illegal immigrants the opportunity to work and live in the only country they know, without the fear of deportation. The International Institute of the Bay Area provides legal counsel to these youth, taking them step by step through the process of filing for this reform. Through their work many children who know the United States as nothing but their home can get a job and live freely within society.
