Taurasi Reaches Milestone As Mercury Rise Above Comets

Phoenix, AZ -- (Sports Network) - Diana Taurasi recorded a game-high 30 points and dished out six assists as Phoenix topped Houston, 99-94.With the effort, Taurasi reached the 3,000-point plateau faster than any other player in league history -- needing 151 games to accomplish the feat. Seattle's Lauren Jackson held the previous record, reaching the magic number in 162. Cappie Pondexter had 22 points for the Mercury, who saw five players score in double figures. Tina Thompson scored 23 points and Sancho Lyttle added 18 and nine boards for the Comets, who had won eight of 10 coming in. Michelle Snow's shot in the paint gave Houston a 90-89 lead with under a minute to play, but Taurasi nailed a three seconds later which gave the Mercury the lead for good. She later blocked a shot and doled out an assist on Pondexter's lay-in which gave the home team a five-point edge.
