Firefighters responded about 5:30 a.m. to Avenue Liquors on Roosevelt Avenue, where they found the building engulfed in flames.

Redwood City police said they don't know if the people had been living inside the store or why they were there when the fire began.

Neighboring business owners were shocked. "It's very devastating to see that. Prayers to the family. But you don't see two deceased bodies at a liquor store, on a Monday morning. It just doesn't happen," says Rahsaan Carty, owner of Team Rahsaan Fitness next door.
Redwood City Police say the store owner has been notified and is cooperating. There is still no word on a cause of this fire.
"It's like a fever dream. It's something that just doesn't feel real at all. I don't know, it's just heartbreaking," says Jesse Martin, a longtime customer.
The deaths come two days after Redwood City police arrested a 35-year-old man for allegedly setting fire at an apartment building in the 1300 block of Marshall Street.
