Volunteers help refurbish homes for San Jose families in need

Volunteers from a local hotel rolled up their sleeves to partner with Rebuilding Together Silicon Valley, an organization that improves homes for residents in need.

To celebrate Earth Day, 14 San Jose Marriott volunteers joined the group to help paint, restructure, and refurbish homes of families in need in order to make them safe and beautiful.

The group focuses on assisting low-income seniors, military veterans, and the disabled.

Laurie Munos with the San Jose Marriott said, "We just want to always- one time a year or a couple times a year- do something where we can give back to the rest of the community".

Volunteers from departments like engineering and human resources were a part of the crew to help families like Nannette and Stephen. Now in their 60s, the couple worked together at Hewlett Packard for more than 30 years. They recently reunited after being separated, and are excited to have a fresh start in their updated home. They each have severe disabilities.

Today, Nannette said, "I think it's great that the community comes together and helps people that need it. We need more of that in society".
