4th grader threatened with sexual harrassment charges for love note

The mother of a 9-year-old boy in Tampa, Florida says his elementary school threatened him with sexual harassment charges because he wrote "a love note" to a girl in his class.

The unidentified mother said her son's note to 4th grade classmate, said "he liked her, and thought her eyes sparkled like diamonds".

Apparently, other students started teasing him about it. Then the school’s principal got involved.

"That's when the principal proceeded to tell me that it wasn't appropriate," the mother said. "That he was writing the note, and if he writes another note they're gonna file sexual harassment charges on my 9 year old."

The 9-year-old's mom says her son doesn't even know what sexual harassment means.

But school officials say "notes like that can be distracting."
