A 9-month-old puppy with three legs is looking for a new home, according to the Peninsula Humane Society & SPCA in Burlingame.

The Pit Bull-Terrier mix named "Jay" arrived at the shelter on Feb. 1 when a police officer found him injured near Valley Drive in Brisbane.

The dog did not have a collar or tags, and no one came forward to claim him. Jay's injuries eventually resulted in a surgical amputation of his rear left leg.

Jay is considered a "tripod" pup, or a pup with three legs, due to his disability, SPCA Communication Manager Buffy Martin Tarbox said.

"Despite missing a limb, Jay is still very playful and agile," Tarbox said in a statement. "He's done quite well in learning how to adjust to being a tripod, and is very sweet."

Jay is neutered, microchipped and vaccinated. His adoption fee is $120.

The shelter is located at 1450 Rollins Road and is open seven days a week, Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and weekends from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
