Shooter still at large following deadly Bay Bridge shooting

- At least two men were shot - one of whom died - following a  Monday morning shooting that led to a multiple-vehicle traffic collision on the San Francisco Bay Bridge tying up traffic for more than five hours.

According to California Highway Patrol Officer Bert Diaz, three vehicles were traveling on eastbound Interstate Highway 80 around 2:23 a.m.  when someone in a gray or silver sedan pulled up alongside a black SUV on the No. 5 lane and shot at it, causing it to collide with another sedan.

The CHP said the driver of the SUV was pronounced dead at the scene while two other passengers in the SUV - another man suffering from a gunshot wound and a man who suffered injuries from the collision- were transported to San Francisco General Hospital. Officers are now poring over surveillance video from the bridge to see if they can get a better description.

Witness describes hearing five loud pops

Witness Raul Lopez and his Honda Civic were caught up in the mess. Lopez told KTVU that he heard the gunshots, describing them as loud five pops. "I thought they were fireworks, I never heard gunshots before," he said. He didn't really see the suspects, but he said he saw a man who was injured and he put a white shirt on him to stop the bleeding. He then called 911. "I'm a little shaken up," he said. "But I'm all good."

The SUV sat on the Bay Bridge for hours during the investigation. It appeared as though the SUV's air bag had been deployed. All lanes reopened just before 8 a.m.

The shooting is the second to occur on Bay Area freeways within the past 10 hours, as a shooting on westbound Interstate Highway 80 in unincorporated Contra Costa County injured at least one person
on Sunday evening.

It's unclear if the victim in Sunday's evening freeway shooting was shot or injured in a traffic collision.

CHP Officer Erica Tatum said the two shootings are being investigated as unrelated incidents.

Bay City News and KTVU staff contributed to this report.
