Hearing in Kate Steinle death
SAN FRANCISCO (KTVU) - A hearing will take place Friday in the Kate Steinle case.
The US government and the City of San Francisco are asking for a wrongful death lawsuit by her family to be dismissed.
Steinle was shot and killed last year as she walked with her father along the San Francisco waterfront.
Juan Francisco Lopez Sanchez, an undocumented immigrant, was arrested and accused of using a stolen law enforcement gun in the fatal shooting.
Steinle's family filed a lawsuit against federal immigration officials, and the City of San Francisco, saying they bear responsibility for Sanchez being released from city custody, instead of being deported, just months before Steinle was killed.
