Driver hits guardrail, veers down embankment, dies on I-80 in Richmond

RICHMOND, Calif. (KTVU) - The driver of a truck died Monday when he hit a guardrail in Richmond and veered off the road on Interstate Highway 80 in Richmond, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Officer Tony Lawson said the  collision was first reported around 5:05 a.m. on the freeway just west of El Portal Drive and is blocking the No. 3 and 4 lanes.
 

He said he thought Caltrans could fix the guardrail and have the lanes reopened by about 8 a.m.
