Lime recalls 2,000 e-scooters over fears they could catch fire

SAN FRANCISCO (KTVU) - One of the nation's largest electric scooter companies is announcing it recently pulled 2,000 scooters off the streets, because the batteries could catch fire.
Lime, based in San Francisco, said that in August, learned about a manufacturing defect with the lithium batteries in .01 percent of its scooter fleet.
The company issued a statement Tuesday in response to questions from The Washington Post about Lime’s scooters catching on fire.
Lime says Segway Ninebot produced the batteries. The affected scooters were only assigned to Los Angeles, San Diego and the Lake Tahoe area.
Lime is also warning consumers than the baseboards can crack or break, if ridden off a curb at high speeds.
