OAKLAND, Calif. (BCN) - An innocent bystander was injured in a shooting in downtown Oakland Tuesday morning, police said.
Shortly after 10:30 a.m., a police officer witnessed the shooting that followed an argument between two males on the sidewalk in the 1300 block of Broadway, according to police.
The shooter missed his target and hit a woman who happened to be nearby. She was taken to a hospital and is listed in stable condition, police said.
The suspect who opened fire fled, with the officer in pursuit, and was last seen in the 1400 block of Broadway. The male victim who was shot at also fled, according to police.
Police remained in the area this afternoon to look for possible witnesses and to gather surveillance footage that might have captured the shooting.
Around 2:00 p.m. OPD recovered a handgun in the 1400 block of Broadway, which they believe may have been used in the shooting.
Citizens tipped off police about suspicious activity and led them to the area where the weapon was found and other evidence was collected.
