Napa woman, 92, is oldest to compete in sanctioned weight-lifting event

- It is just an amazing thing to watch 92-year-old Evelyn Kilgore push her walker to get her barbell before she gets set and starts her lift.

Make no mistake, the Napa woman is a force to be reckoned with.

She started her first weight lifting competition in Monterey in 2013. And since then?

“I was world champion....world champion, state champion and national champion,” she said.

She holds those records in the dead lift, which requires her to lift the bar bell off the ground and stand up straight. She is all alone in her age group and weight class.

Her secret? "Get up and move!," she said.

She is a mother, grandmother and great grandmother -- and is the oldest woman to ever compete in a sanctioned weight lifting event. It's fair to say she is in a class all by herself and she has set the bar pretty high.
