Antioch police are investigating an early Monday morning shooting that left one person dead and two others injured in the parking lot of a shopping center near an Applebee’s restaurant.

Police say their officers responded to a call about shots fired in the parking lot of the center on Hillcrest Avenue and Larkspur Drive off Highway 4 about 1:15 a.m., long after Applebee’s was closed. When police arrived, they found one person dead, another injured in the shooting.

Paramedics rushed the person who was injured to the hospital.

Police later discovered a third person injured in the shooting, went to a nearby hospital on their own.

Witnesses described the gunfire. “I thought it was firecrackers,” Rick Del Castillo said.

Another witness at a gas station nearby said he heard an argument before the shooting.

Investigators on scene did not give any further information.

It’s also unclear if police have anyone in custody in connection with this shooting or if they have a suspect identified.
