One person dies in 7-car San Jose accident on Highway 85

At least one person died in a seven-car collision Monday night on southbound state Highway 85 in San Jose, according to California Highway Patrol officials. 

The collision was first reported at 9:53 p.m. on Highway 85 just north of Great Oaks Boulevard and involved at least seven vehicles, CHP officials said.

 A Sig-alert was issued at 10:23 p.m. because all southbound lanes were blocked due to the collision. Traffic had to be diverted off the highway at Cottle Road, CHP officials said.

CHP officials confirmed that there was at least one fatality in the collision.  At about 1 a.m. Tuesday the Sig-alert was canceled and all lanes reopened, CHP officials said.
