San Leandro police say they have made arrests in connection with a shooting at Bayfair Center last week.

Police released few details Thursday night, but said they have also seized several firearms, including an assault rifle, many of them with 30-round magazines.

The shooting, which occurred at 6:40 p.m. on Jan. 14 in the parking lot near the Old Navy and Bed Bath and Beyond stores, was not believed to be a random act, according to Lt. Robert McManus.

People in a car and two men on foot in the parking lot appear to have exchanged gunfire, but no injuries were reported, police said last week.

The suspects all fled the scene before police arrived, with the two suspects on foot fleeing into the mall.

Police said the two suspects who were arrested were members of rival East Oakland gangs. The two were detained and interviewed by police after a search of the mall, but those men were determined to be only witnesses.

One was released Thursday night, but the other man was held on an unrelated outstanding arrest warrant.

Police said they will release further details on the arrests Friday morning.
