Surveillance video: Suspects seen in smash-and-grab at Novato Costco

Three men wearing surgical masks were caught on video smashing the glass display case on Sunday and making off with jewelry at the Costco  in Novato – at least the fourth smash-and-grab at a Costco in the Bay Area in the last three months.

Novato police posted three surveillance videos of the robbery in progress at the Vintage Oaks store. The men are seen entering the store and going directly to the jewelry cases. They use a hammer to smash the glass before running out of the store to a getaway car. No weapons were seen, police posted, and no one was injured. The suspects got away and the dark, four-door sedan, similar to a Chevy Sonic with paper dealer plates, hasn’t been found.

In late June, four men, some wearing masks and carrying hammers, robbed a Foster City Costco and got away. One of them hand a handgun, witnesses told police.

In May, two similar robberies occurred at the Danville Costco, where two suspects and three suspects respectively, smashed a display case and stole goods. The Danville Patch reports that an Oakland man was arrested in connection with the second robbery.
Police are now trying to figure out if all the robberies are linked.

If anyone has information about the Novato robbery, they are encouraged to call Novato police at 415-897-4361.
