Teenage girl shot while confronting alleged carjacker in San Jose

A teenage girl was shot Monday night in San Jose after she confronted her alleged carjacker. Police are investigating the incident that took place at Winfield Blvd. and Coleman Rd. just blocks away from the Westfield Oakridge Mall.

The victim’s vehicle, a Toyota sedan, has since been recovered after the incident happened around 6:30 p.m. The car was towed away after it was found on El Lisa Dr., about a mile from where the carjacking occurred. Authorities said the girl was walking with a group of friends and saw a man breaking into her car.

Police said when she confronted the man, she was shot once in the upper part of her body. The bullet entered near her clavicle, but she’s expected to survive.

Investigators are combing through the victim’s vehicle, searching for evidence. They’ve asked neighbors if there’s surveillance video, but the suspect is said to be on the loose.

Police did not release a description of the suspect.
