The Red Zone: SF D.A. hosts event on campus sexual assault

It's the time period between the start of school until the Thanksgiving break when more than 50 percent of sexual assaults occur on college campuses. It's called the Red Zone.

KTVU sat down with San Francisco District Attorney George Gascon this week to discuss an event he's hosting Thursday at San Francisco State University to raise awareness on the issue.

With college students across the country starting a new semester, Gascon says freshmen especially need to know about the dangers of sexual assaults on campus.

Gascon says more open and honest discussions about the problem are important. The Red Zone event will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Seven Hills Conference Center at SF State.
