Two openings on East Contra Costa County fire board

- People who live in certain parts of East Contra Costa County and are interested in public service are encouraged to pursue a position on the area's fire board, government officials said.

There are two vacancies on the East Contra Costa Fire Protection District's nine-member Board of Directors, according to government officials.

The board of directors is the governing body of the fire district and establishes an annual budget and makes decisions affecting district operations.

In order to serve on the board, it is necessary to be a resident of the district, government officials said.

The district includes the cities of Brentwood and Oakley and the unincorporated communities of Bethel Island, Byron, Discovery Bay, Knightsen and Morgan Territory/Marsh Creek Corridor.

Four board members are appointed by the City of Brentwood, three are appointed by the City of Oakley, and the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors appoints two, government officials said.

Applicants should plan to be available for public interviews Dec. 11, according to government officials.

To learn more, applicants can contact Fire Chief Brian Helmick at (925) 584-8468 or bhelmick@eccfpd.org. To obtain application forms, call (925) 335-1900 or visit the county webpage at www.co.contra-costa.ca.us.
