USGS reports magnitude 3.5 earthquake near Oakland

OAKLAND, Calif. (KTVU) - U.S. Geological Survey downgraded a small earthquake to 3.5 from 3.6 and an initial 3.8 Monday evening. The temblor was recorded at 7:18 p.m. at a distance of about 1.8 miles east-northeast of Oakland. 

The jolt was felt widely throughout the Bay Area. KTVU received phone calls and Twitter responses from as far as Benicia, Orinda, Pacifica, and San Carlos among other areas. 

BART tweeted that they were momentarily holding trains due to a "seismic event" but was quick to recover with reports of 10- minute delays shortly after.

SF Muni tweeted trains would be moving in manual mode.  

USGS, reported the earthquake was along the Hayward fault line. Its depth was about 5.5 miles.
