Video: Spectacular meteor lights up sky

A spectacular streak of light flashed across the sky in Central Mexico early Sunday morning, treating star gazers to a preshow of the Geminids meteor shower expected to peak later this week.

A single meteor is seen crossing the sky as a glowing green ball in a slowed down version of video taken by photographer Jorge Diaz Henry on Sunday.

The celestial show was seen by residents in Acapulco and Mexico City's Xochimilco neighborhood.

Experts say the shooting star was traveling at an estimated speed of 12,000 miles per hour, and an early meteor from the Geminids shower.

They say the brilliant display was a preview of the shower scheduled to light up the skies later this week.
