Security guard in Walnut Creek arrested for 'unexpectedly' killing colleague with metal pole: police

- Walnut Creek police on Friday arrested a security guard who they say killed his 60-year-old colleague at an apartment complex construction site in Walnut Creek with a large metal pole.

Police took Hakim Madjour, 34, of Concord into custody on suspicion of homicide after his colleague was found dead Thursday about 7 p.m near an apartment complex under construction in the 1800 block of Lacassie Avenue. The site is not too far from the city's downtown BART station.

Efforts to find Madjour's attorney was not immediately successful. A request to interview him at the Martinez Detention Facility was not immediately returned. His bail was set at $1 million.

In a news release, police said Madjour "violently and unexpectedly" attacked the 60-year-old, which led to his death. The exact motive wasn't laid out.

Police were first called out to a construction site on Ygnacio Valley Road. But when they got there, they realized they had been given the wrong address, police said, and they figured out that the disturbance had occurred in the 1800 block of Lacassie Avenue.

The 60-year-old was treated by medics at the scene, but he did not survive.
