FREMONT, Calif. - The Fremont Police department is mourning the loss of police K9 Kalimero.
On Monday, December 7, K9 Kalimero was found in his handler's backyard suffering from intestinal torsion (twisting and blockage of the intestines).
He was rushed to the veterinarian hospital and underwent emergency surgery.
It appeared after the first surgery he was doing well, but later in the evening Kalimero suffered a heart attack and passed away.
Kalimero joined the Fremont police department in 2013 and was just over four years old at the time of his passing.
Fremont police say Kalimero was an exceptional working dog who will remain in their thoughts and be missed by all.
