The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has closed its preliminary investigation into a risk of fire in more 1 million Jeep vehicles.

Stellantis recalled approximately 1.08 million vehicles in June, including all 2021-2025 Wranglers and any Gladiators built between June 24, 2020, and Dec. 2, 2024, over reports of fires starting when the vehicles were parked and the ignitions off.
Stellantis said at the time the problem appeared to involve an electrical connection issue in the electric hydraulic power steering pump wiring. That issue, the company said, could cause combustible materials to overheat and potentially catch fire.
The recall came after the NHTSA began investigating about 781,500 of the vehicles because of fire reports. Several of the fires appeared to have started near the power steering pump, the agency said.

The NHTSA urged owners to park their vehicles outside and away from other vehicles and buildings until repairs were made.
Regulators told Reuters the Stellantis recall addressed the vehicles and conditions they were looking into. It will continue to monitor the vehicles’ performance and said it could take additional action in the future if that were to become necessary.
