Marin renovates historic WWII worker housing where Tupac Shakur lived

The historic Golden Gate Village in Marin County is undergoing a complete $300 million renovation that began Tuesday with residents moving out into temporary units in another part of the complex. The Marin City site is a designated historic landmark, which was built for Black WWII shipyard workers who had difficulty finding housing due to discrimination. Tupac Shakur once lived in one of the apartments and the high-rise buildings were designed by an employee of famed architect Frank Lloyd Wright's firm which also designed the Marin County building. The construction on the 298 units will be done in 2 phases.
