2-alarm fire at Sunnyvale apartment complex

Firefighters are working to control a two-alarm fire at a Sunnyvale apartment complex this afternoon that sent to two people to the hospital and resulted in dozens of evacuations, a department of public safety captain said.

Crews responded to a report of a fire at Twin Pines Manor Apartments at 1066 Sunnyvale-Saratoga Road shortly before 1 p.m., department Capt. Shawn Ahearn said.

Firefighters rescued two adults who were sent to the hospital, Ahearn said. An update on their conditions were not immediately available.

No other injuries were reported, according to Ahearn.

About 30 to 50 residents have been evacuated from the complex and the American Red Cross has been called to assist them, he said.

As of about 2:30 p.m., the fire was not under control, Ahearn said.

Santa Clara County firefighters have also responded to the scene, he said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
