Newscast Director

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Creative direction of talent and crews with either multi-camera or single-camera shooting from the Control Room (and on location) during broadcast. Direct all types of television station programs: Sports, promotion, local programming, community affairs, commercials and remotes. This position consults with Producers, Anchors and other crew members on production needs. Other duties assigned as deemed appropriate and necessary.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: High school diploma is required; 4-year College degree is preferred.  Candidates should have 3 to 5 years experience with fast-paced television productions. Ignite experience or other newscast automation is required.  A strong technical understanding of new technology is also required.  Excellent communication and leadership skills are required.

News Film Tape Editor

KTVU Fox 2 in Oakland, CA is looking for an Electronic News Gathering (ENG) Editor.  Duties include: Edit ENG material for various newscasts under specific time constraints using non-linear editing equipment.  Must have a working knowledge of Grass Valley’s Edius software or similar program. Familiarity with Bitcentral newsroom system and iNews a plus.  Must be able to work in a graphics-intense, high-production value, fast-paced news environment.  Applicant must understand what elements go into good storytelling and apply appropriate techniques into their daily work.  Candidate is expected to be willing to cross-train into other areas of the news operation if needed, including sports. Weekends, holidays and varied hours required.  HS diploma or equivalent required. College degree preferred. 1 year news or related editing experience required.  Must be a self-starter and able to work efficiently in fast-paced surroundings, both independently and as a team member.

Segment Producer

KTVU is seeking a Segment Producer who can assist in a variety of news projects and shows. Primary responsibilities include filling in as a line producer on daily news shows, producing and assisting in the production of news specials, booking live guests and segment producing. The ideal candidate must be organized, able to multi-task and be a problem solver. Must be able to work with different departments at KTVU, including creative services, production, and traffic. Also needs to be able to build and develop relationships and contacts outside the newsroom to aid in newsgathering.  The Segment Producer must be able line produce, including building rundowns, writing news copy, creating graphics and timing a show. Strong writing and producing skills are essential. Must be able to contribute ideas on a daily basis in editorial meetings and to recognize what types of stories would make for interesting and compelling television and online content.  Ability to adapt to a fast-paced quickly changing environment and react in live situations to cover breaking news and developing stories. Must be enterprising and self-motivated and be able to work independently to develop newscast or assigned production. Requires a thorough understanding of all journalistic standards and broadcast production techniques used to create visual and compelling on-air and online content. Must have thorough understanding of social media platforms and experience posting to digital platforms.  Bachelor’s Degree in journalism or related field required.  Must have experience producing TV newscasts (minimum of 2 years).  Familiarity with Bit Central and iNews a plus.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Create compelling, UX-focused content related to news, events and topics relevant to local users and beyond, including text stories, photos/graphics, live streaming content, breaking news, and social media elements. Engage and build loyalty among communities. Optimize content for search engine optimization (SEO). Serve as liaison to newsroom, ensuring digital and social dominance. Reach and engage users on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, Snapchat and beyond. Work with Group Content Team and other FTS markets to distribute high-interest stories at scale. 3+ years experience developing and publishing content, including news, on digital and social platforms preferred. BA/BS degree, preferably in Journalism, Communications or related field with emphasis on digital publishing. Excellent writer and storyteller. Superior news judgement. News Producer

KTVU, Fox 2, seeks a producer for our late morning show, "The Nine". Producer must have excellent organization skills and be able to manage live guests, segment booking and daily news content. Producer required to select content, write and copy edit stories, assemble stories into a rundown, book guests, and create graphics and visuals to complement the presentation of material for the on-air broadcast and digital platforms.  This includes generating story ideas, working with community partners, having strong planning skills and being a creative storyteller. Will work closely with News Managers, Assignment Desk, news reporters and other newsroom employees on segment conception, development and execution.  Create and write content for digital platforms that cross-promote and/or supplement station’s newsgathering efforts.  Participate in editorial meetings, contributing ideas and innovative ways to present material.  Producers will also be assigned to produce or oversee special projects, productions, or live coverage of station-sponsored events.    Other duties assigned as deemed appropriate and necessary.  

The producer must be able to write news copy clearly, in broadcast style, for on-air, online, and other digital platforms.  Must be able to assemble news material in a logical and organized fashion and present finished stories in a professional and engaging manner for viewers/readers to be able to comprehend the latest local, national and international news.  Strong writing and producing skills are essential.  Ability to contribute ideas on a daily basis and to recognize what types of stories would make for interesting and compelling television and online content.  Ability to adapt to a fast paced quickly changing environment and react in live situations to cover breaking news, etc.  Ability to establish and maintain harmonious relationships with peers and supervisors and to develop contacts outside the building to aid in newsgathering.  The producer must be enterprising and self-motivated and be able to work independently to develop newscast or assigned production.  Requires a thorough understanding of all journalistic standards and broadcast production techniques used to create visual and compelling on-air and online content.

Broadcast Technician (part-time)

JOB DESCRIPTION: KTVU is seeking candidates for two Part-Time Broadcast Technician positions.   Primary duties include operating in Master Control, the Technical Operations Center, and Ingest.  Master Control automation experience a must with an emphasis on switching live sports.  Ensuring compliance with FCC regulations related to closed captioning, EAS, transmitters, text-to-speech, and the CALM Act. Live news experience is also a must to include tuning in live shots via microwave, satellite, and bonded cellular.  Other duties include commercial and program ingest and segmentation as well as quality control of on-air signal.  Flexibility to work a variety of shifts that may include nights, overnights, weekends, and holidays. Other duties as deemed appropriate and necessary.  

REQUIREMENTS: Two years of college or technical school and two years of related experience required.  The ability to work under tight timelines and high stress while maintaining an exceptional on-air product. Basic technical troubleshooting skills and the ability to properly communicate issues to the Maintenance Engineers and supervisors. Computer hardware, software, and networking experience and the ability to quickly learn new applications and workflows.  Must work well with others in and out of the Engineering department and be able to communicate clearly in writing as well as in person.

Facilities Manager

KTVU Fox 2 is looking for an experienced Facilities Manager. This position is responsible for the overall maintenance of the building and grounds. Inspects building and grounds daily for cleanliness, safety, proper lighting, and proper operation of all building equipment including generator, HVAC, fire-protection, etc. Ensures compliance with all OSHA and state/county/city regulations.  Track all permits and permit applications to ensure timely renewals and compliance. Supervises shipping and receiving, janitorial service, security, lawn service personnel and other trades as needed. Performs minor electrical, plumbing, lock, touch-up painting, carpentry, and other minor building repairs. Acts as a liaison with HVAC and other service contractors on required service to the building facilities. Supervises and obtains cost estimates on building renovations or remodeling. Purchases building supplies. Assists in building and grounds budget preparation and administration. Prepares and submits building expense requisitions to VP of Engineering. 

Associates Degree from college/university or technical school completion is preferred. Experience in maintenance supervision of a commercial building is required. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.

Account Executive 

Job Description: Maintain and improve existing client list and generate new business on our FOX stations and websites in order to generate significant revenue and achieve sales budget. Make presentations to advertising agencies and clients.  Responsible for selling sponsorships that may include promotions initiated by sales persons. Compile lists of prospective customers to use as sales leads.  This position involves local travel to call on regular and prospective clients.  Other duties assigned as deemed necessary and appropriate. 

Requirements: A Bachelors' Degree plus four years of major market experience in transactional and online advertising sales is required. Candidate must be proficient in negotiating utilizing Nielsen LPM ratings and qualitative information. Strong communication and presentation skills – both written and oral are required. Major network affiliation is preferred. Candidate must have proven success with generating and maintaining new business and experience with major sports programming sales. Prior experience with Wide Orbit and One Domain is preferred. Candidate must be detail oriented, resourceful, a team player, reliable and a self-starter. Candidate must have a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office. Must have or be willing to obtain and drive reliable transportation and have a valid CA driver's license with a good driving record.

KTVU Channel 2 and KTVU Plus offer an unpaid college internship program three times a year: Spring, Summer and Fall.

Students are provided a chance to experience the working environment of television broadcasting including news/sports, digital/social media news production and promotion, and community affairs.Internship Requirements:College students must meet these requirements to qualify for a KTVU/KTVU Plus internship:

  • Be currently enrolled in an accredited four year college.
  • Be a junior, senior or graduate student in a graduate program.
  • Provide a letter on school letterhead, prior to the start of the internship, from an advisor or professor stating that the student is enrolled in school during the current semester/quarter and will be receiving course credit.
  • Have a GPA of 2.5 or higher.
