Senior Producer

JOB DESCRIPTION: The Senior Producer helps oversee the Bay Area’s top rated morning show, Mornings on 2. The ideal candidate will work closely with the show’s executive producer to assign stories, approve reporter scripts, manage breaking news and oversee rundowns. The Senior Producer fills in as executive producer and also line produces when needed. Candidates must have strong writing skills, be able to multi-task and work well under pressure. They must also have a strong understanding of the digital landscape and have a digital-first mentality. This position is a great step for a strong producer who is looking to get experience in management. Other duties assigned as deemed appropriate and necessary.

The senior producer must be able to write news copy clearly, in broadcast style, for on-air, online, and other digital platforms.  Must be able to assemble news material in a logical and organized fashion and present finished stories in a professional and engaging manner. Strong writing and producing skills are essential.  Ability to contribute ideas on a daily basis and to recognize what types of stories would make for interesting and compelling television and online content.  Ability to adapt to a fast-paced quickly changing environment and react in live situations to cover breaking news, etc.  Requires a thorough understanding of all journalistic standards and broadcast production techniques used to create visual and compelling on-air and online content.

Bachelor’s Degree in journalism or related field required.  Must have experience producing TV newscasts (minimum of 5 years).  Familiarity with Bit Central, iNews and Chyron a plus.

News Photographer

JOB DESCRIPTION: KTVU is seeking a News ENG Photographer to clearly and creatively record news events and perform ENG operations so the story may be effectively conveyed to the viewers in a complete, factual, timely and professional manner   Must have a professional level of skill in lighting and audio operations in the field.

Operate, service, and maintain in proper working order electronic equipment provided for the execution of assignments.  Must be familiar with ENG technology and microwave transmission in order to carry out live shots.  Must conduct wide range of ENG operations with a clear understanding of safety procedures.

Must be able to edit in the field under pressure and be familiar with non-linear editing.  Seek out and shoot live action, breaking news stories, monitor 2-way radio from newsroom and monitor police scanners for information on news stories.  Drive reporters to the scene of live, breaking news stories and to locations to shoot stories for later use on News programs.  Carry out the instructions of the Assignment Desk and Newsroom Managers.  May occasionally be required to photograph scenes from an airplane or helicopter or fly to an assignment in such an aircraft.   Assignments may include out of market and overnight travel.  Other duties assigned as deemed appropriate and necessary. 

Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum of three years of professional News Camera experience is required or equivalent combination of education and experience.  Candidates must have an excellent driving record.   A professional level of skill in operation of ENG live trucks, ENG field cameras and field editing systems, including non-linear and associated photographic equipment is required.

Sales Assistant

RESPONSIBILITIES: Candidate will provide administrative support to the KTVU Fox 2 and KTVU Plus Sales management staff and Account Executives.   Duties include writing and checking orders, proposals, maintaining organizational systems, general office requirements, and assisting with special projects.  Investigate order discrepancies and credit memos.  Back up other sales assistants as necessary.   Participate in and help with sales coordinated events.  Answer phones in a professional and courteous manner. Other duties may be assigned as deemed appropriate and necessary.

REQUIREMENTS: Strong written/oral communication skills are required.   Strong PC skills and proficiency w/ Microsoft Office is also required.   This position requires excellent attention to detail, and accuracy.  Must be able to interact professionally with a variety of people and work efficiently and courteously w/ station personnel.   Must be personable and demonstrate initiative.  Two years of experience in an administrative position is required.  Media experience preferred.  High school diploma or GED is required.  College degree preferred.

Part-Time Broadcast Technician

KTVU is seeking candidates for two Part-Time Broadcast Technician positions.   Primary duties include operating in Master Control, the Technical Operations Center, and Ingest.  Master Control automation experience a must with an emphasis on switching live sports.  Ensuring compliance with FCC regulations related to closed captioning, EAS, transmitters, text-to-speech, and the CALM Act. Live news experience is also a must to include tuning in live shots via microwave, satellite, and bonded cellular.  Other duties include commercial and program ingest and segmentation as well as quality control of on-air signal.  Flexibility to work a variety of shifts that may include nights, overnights, weekends, and holidays. Other duties as deemed appropriate and necessary.  Two years of college or technical school and two years of related experience required.  The ability to work under tight timelines and high stress while maintaining an exceptional on-air product. Basic technical troubleshooting skills and the ability to properly communicate issues to the Maintenance Engineers and supervisors. Computer hardware, software, and networking experience and the ability to quickly learn new applications and workflows.  Must work well with others in and out of the Engineering department and be able to communicate clearly in writing as well as in person.

Part-Time News Reporter

RESPONSIBILITIES: KTVU is seeking a part-time Reporter to provide original news content for KTVU FOX 2,, and associated media partners by successfully accomplishing the following responsibilities: gather news information; write news stories, conduct taped and live interviews and be able to present material in a compelling and engaging manner.  Additional duties assigned as deemed appropriate and necessary.

REQUIREMENTS: Must have a broad working knowledge of police procedures, the court system, and municipal, state and federal government operations and must have strong knowledge of legal and ethical parameters of reporting. Ability to work under stressful conditions and deadlines is a must. A professional appearance is essential. Must annunciate clearly, and maintain a clear delivery during both live and taped reports. 4–year college degree required with emphasis in Communications and Journalisms preferred. 3 -5 years’ experience in a medium to major market.

Assistant Director

JOB DESCRIPTION: Primary duties will include running robotic cameras, floor directing, and formatting newscasts. Consulting with Producer, Directors, Anchors and other crew members on production needs. We are an Ignite facility with Avid iNEWS. While the main emphasis is news, this position may be called upon to assist in all types of television station programs--sports, promotion, local programming, community affairs, commercials and remotes. Other duties assigned as deemed appropriate and necessary.

REQUIREMENTS: High school diploma is required; 4-year college degree is preferred. Candidate should have prior experience with fast paced television productions. Ignite knowledge or other newscast automation experience is a plus.  Excellent communication and leadership skills are necessary

Local Sales Manager

JOB DESCRIPTION: Candidate will have responsibility for sale of ad time and digital assets to local/regional clients-agencies. Assist with the training, development and motivation of a local sales team. Establish and monitor local budgets. Develop/implement new business plan. Develop rating estimates and assist with research pieces. Deal effectively with a varied list of clients. Communicate effectively with and establish strong relationships with local agencies & clients. Demonstrate leadership to the department and fellow managers; all designed to achieve and exceed station goals and objectives on all media platforms; television, internet, mobile and digital channels. Account Executive 

Job Description: Maintain and improve existing client list and generate new business on our FOX stations and websites in order to generate significant revenue and achieve sales budget. Make presentations to advertising agencies and clients.  Responsible for selling sponsorships that may include promotions initiated by sales persons. Compile lists of prospective customers to use as sales leads.  This position involves local travel to call on regular and prospective clients.  Other duties assigned as deemed necessary and appropriate. 

Requirements: A Bachelors' Degree plus four years of major market experience in transactional and online advertising sales is required. Candidate must be proficient in negotiating utilizing Nielsen LPM ratings and qualitative information. Strong communication and presentation skills – both written and oral are required. Major network affiliation is preferred. Candidate must have proven success with generating and maintaining new business and experience with major sports programming sales. Prior experience with Wide Orbit and One Domain is preferred. Candidate must be detail oriented, resourceful, a team player, reliable and a self-starter. Candidate must have a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office. Must have or be willing to obtain and drive reliable transportation and have a valid CA driver's license with a good driving record.

KTVU Channel 2 and KTVU Plus offer an unpaid college internship program three times a year: Spring, Summer and Fall.

Students are provided a chance to experience the working environment of television broadcasting including news/sports, digital/social media news production and promotion, and community affairs.Internship Requirements:College students must meet these requirements to qualify for a KTVU/KTVU Plus internship:

  • Be currently enrolled in an accredited four year college.
  • Be a junior, senior or graduate student in a graduate program.
  • Provide a letter on school letterhead, prior to the start of the internship, from an advisor or professor stating that the student is enrolled in school during the current semester/quarter and will be receiving course credit.
  • Have a GPA of 2.5 or higher.
