Friday marks 119 years since the devasting 1906 earthquake in San Francisco. According to CAL OES, more than 70% of Californians live within 30 miles of an active fault line. State officials are urging residents to learn about the simple tools and technology that could make all the difference when the shaking starts.

A 4.4 magnitude earthquake struck Mendocino County on Tuesday afternoon, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

What we know:

The quake was reported at 1:10 p.m. about 5 miles east-southeast of Willits and roughly 17 miles north of Ukiah. The USGS initially reported the earthquake as 4.3 magnitude before updating it to 4.4.
