Pedestrian struck in Castro Valley hit-and-run crash
Alameda County authorities are investigating a hit-and-run crash in Castro Valley near Sommerset and Anita avenues. This is video from above the scene Thursday afternoon.
CASTRO VALLEY, Calif. - A hit-and-run crash in Castro Valley on Thursday afternoon left a 57-year-old man dead, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Sgt. Jesus Aguilar of the CHP’s Hayward division said the crash happened around 1:29 p.m. at the intersection of Somerset and Anita avenues.
Victim was in crosswalk
What we know:
The victim was walking in a marked crosswalk with the walk signal activated when a vehicle struck him and fled, Aguilar said.
A neighbor told KTVU that people stopped to help the man who was struck in the crosswalk, including a nurse who performed CPR.
The man died at the scene.

An attorney representing a 77-year-old woman accused alongside her husband of gunning down their son-in-law at a crowded Dublin park offered the first glimpse of her defense, portraying his client as a devoted grandmother while pointing to court records alleging that the slain man had abused his wife and children.
Investigators have identified a potential vehicle and driver involved in the crash and are working to contact them, Aguilar said.

Aguilar said he could not confirm whether the vehicle was speeding.
