PITTSBURG, Calif. (KTVU) - Flummadiddle, or Flummy for short, is a special kind of dog. The 1-year-old shih tzu mix was born without front legs. But before you feel too sorry for the 10-pound-pooch, an animal rescue group says she recently received a wheelchair and is now "unstoppable."
Umbrella of Hope, an East Contra Costa County-based nonprofit dedicated to the rehabilitation and placement in forever homes of animals in danger of losing their lives in shelters, is looking for someone who shares Flummy's "superpower" or "limb differences" to adopt her. %INLINE%
The ideal setting for Flummy would be a home with adults and could include children 10 years of age or older, according to the nonprofit.
An introduction video posted on YouTube explains Flummy was born with stubs where her front limbs would be.
Whoever ends up adopting the dog should not be surprised if they discover a tattoo on her stomach. Umbrella of Hope explains most of their animals are given a "painless tattoo" while they are under anesthesia for spay or neuter surgery or if they have to see the nonprofit's dental office.
Flummy appears energetic in her new set of wheels and has been preparing for her adoption with her physical therapist. The video shows her getting around on a leash and being walked just like any other dog. %INLINE%
According to the video, Flummy likes other dogs, cats and even guinea pigs! One of her favorite pastimes is going on car rides with her foster family.
Umbrella of Hope says they are looking for someone with similar limb differences, so they can cheer one another on. They will waive the adoption fee if those seeking Flummy for a forever home meet those qualifications.
