The names of the shooter and six of the eight people shot and killed at a home in Erie, Pennsylvania, including seven of his relatives last week have been released.

Matthew Stone Sr, 45, was identified as the shooter in the Oct. 9 deadly attack, according to Erie County coroner Lyell Cook.

Erie Police Chief Rick Lorah told The Associated Press that Stone took his own life.

Shooting victims identified

What we know:

The victims in the deadly shooting were Michelle Stone, 44; Angelina Stone, 24, who was due to give birth Monday; Jonathan Stone, 19; Matthew Stone, 21, and two women who lived at other addresses: Lora Roberts, 37, and Twila Tanner, 51, The Associated Press reported, citing Erie County coroner Lyell Cook.

What we don't know:

Cook added that a 5-year-old boy and a 1-year-old girl also died, but that state law prevented him from releasing their names.

The AP reported that at a memorial to the victims, Julius Windham told the news outlet that his daughter Amarianna was the toddler who was killed.

The child’s mother was Angelina Stone, who was also the mother of the boy who died, he said, sharing that the shooter was a grandfather and the family patriarch.

Family friend Nicole Eller said Roberts routinely went to the home to help during the pregnancy of her niece and neighbor, Angela Stone.

According to the AP, Roberts, identified by friends as a mother of five who was engaged to be married, was a volunteer and former board member for a community group that helped homeless people. She wrote a July 15 Facebook post decrying recent shootings in Erie, Pennsylvania.

The backstory:

Erie Police Chief Rick Lorah said on Oct. 11 that seven of the victims and the shooter were related. An eighth victim was a friend of one of the victims.

On Oct. 9, police responded to an automated gunshot detection alert at a home on Perry Street.  Lorah said several 911 calls came in after police received the alert. When officers arrived at the home minutes later, they found two women, 37 and 51, in the yard who had been shot dead.

On the first-floor, police found the bodies of multiple victims, a 1-year-old girl and a 5-year-old boy, a 19-year-old man, a 21-year-old man, a 24-year-old woman and a 44-year-old woman.

Matthew Stone Sr., the shooter, was found on the second floor of the home. Authorities said he appeared to have a self-inflicted gunshot wound and found a gun on his person.

Lorah said they believe all the victims had already been killed, and the gunman was dead before the first officers arrived on the scene.

The Associated Press reported that video and audio evidence recovered by authorities included muffled gunshot sounds coming from inside the house just before two "distressed" women arrived and started banging on the door, Lorah said. Stone then came out and shot them as they ran toward him, before returning inside.

Lora Roberts and Twila Tanner, who was the only non-relative, were killed outside the home, Lorah said.

The police chief hasn't said what Stone’s possible motives were, but he implied that his mental health might have been a factor.

Lorah also told the AP that investigators would speak to relatives and inspect the cellphones of the women who were killed outside the home.
