Funeral for political force Rose Pak expected to draw over 1,000 people

More than a thousand people are expected to pay their respects today to Rose Pak, a longtime activist in the Chinese community.

She died last Sunday of natural causes at 68.

She never held political office but was widely regarded for the political clout she held for more than three decades.

A wake was held last night, where a steady stream of people paid their respects.

Pak was born in China, and moved to San Francisco in 1967. She later became a reporter for the Chronicle and a political force in the Chinatown community. Pak helped to raise money for local causes and preferred candidates.
