Players not only stars on Super Bowl Opening Night

Hundreds of football fans and members of the media descended on the SAP Center in San Jose Monday night for the annual Super Bowl media day.

The event is usually held during the afternoon, but was moved to the early evening for Super Bowl 50 so it could be broadcast live on the NFL network.

The Broncos and the Panthers spent an hour each taking questions from members of the media, but not everyone was asking about the upcoming game.

As in years past, some reporters were dressed in character. One reporter claiming to be from Germany had a gold microphone and wanted to know the players’ favorite food. There was also a puppet asking questions, a man in an orange full body suit, someone dressed up as Left Shark and another person wearing a giant football.

The key players, like Peyton Manning and Cam Newton, were on a platform surrounded by more main stream media. The rest of the team spent the time on the floor doing interviews with members of the media from all over the world.

There were numerous Spanish-language television stations on hand, and couple football fans were seen carrying the Mexican flag.

Fans in the stands were able to listen to special headsets and hear what players were saying. The players spent one hour taking questions before heading back stage.

And the end of the Q&A session, some of the players signed autographs for fans. While others posed for pictures with each other.

There was a mix of Broncos and Carolina fans, but many people were wearing 49ers and Raiders jerseys. The cheerleaders for both local teams were on hand to take pictures with fans.

The Denver Broncos and the Carolina Panthers will face off at Levi’s Stadium in nearby Santa Clara on Sunday, February 7th.
