GILROY (KTVU) - The Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office has sealed off an area in the outskirts of Gilroy, after the discovery of human remains Wednesday afternoon.
Officials told KTVU, that a PG&E worker found skeletal remains at Santa Teresa Boulevard and Castro Valley Road, near Gavilan College, just off of Highway 101.
Due to dental records, authorities said they do not believe the remains are that of Sierra Lamar, the 15-year-old high school student in Morgan Hill, who disappeared while catching a school bus in March 2012.
Santa Clara County deputies remained on the discovery site throughout the night.
They have not said whether the remains are male or female.
The discovery also prompted the family of missing person, Videl Zepeda, to go to the scene.
"We came out here because we were told there was a body found," said Esmeralda Zepeda, sister-in-law of Videl Zepeda.
His family says he disappeared a week ago, and his car was found on HIghway 33.
His girlfriend has filed a missing person's report.
The Mercury News reached out to Lamar's family, which told the paper that they had not been contacted by authorities about the remains found.
Even though her body has never been recovered, prosecutors say DNA evidence shows that suspect Antolin Garcia-Torres kidnapped and killed her. He goes to trial in April.
